ContiOcean Environment Tech Group Co., Ltd., a world-leading maritime ESG solutions provider, has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to set up its research and development (R&D) center at Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), a member of Qatar Foundation (QF)
Since its establishment in 2017, ContiOcean has been supporting shipowners and shipbuilders across the world to respond to the evolving global and national ESG requirements, and support marine environment preservation.
Through a suite of maritime ESG solutions that include marine gas exhaust cleaning, marine energy-saving, carbon reduction solutions, and other maritime services, ContiOcean has helped empower businesses in Asia, Europe, Americas, and the Middle East to enhance sustainability and efficiency across their business operations.
ContiOcean ranked first among non-SOE (private) ship exhaust gas cleaning system providers in China, and tenth among ship exhaust gas cleaning system providers globally, in terms of cumulative volume of completed and on-hand orders for ship exhaust gas cleaning systems by June 30, 2024, according to Frost & Sullivan.
The company is now looking to leverage QSTP’s ecosystem to further its mission around marine environment protection, and support Qatar’s ambitious sustainability targets. It also aims to tap into the resources available in QF Education City for joint R&D works. Furthermore, ContiOcean plans to make Qatar its regional hub for MENA-wide operations. All this was affirmed in an LOI signed by ContiOcean Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Zhao Mingzhu.
On the occasion, Dr Jack Lau, President of QSTP commented: “ContiOcean is an established leader in developing solutions that protect and promote the sustainability of marine environments. Their solutions and expertise can be highly beneficial to achieving Qatar’s sustainability goals in line with Qatar’s National Vision 2030. QSTP is thrilled to potentially collaborate with ContiOcean to further research, knowledge exchange and tech talent development in the area of marine green technologies.”
As part of the LOI, ContiOcean is hoping to achieve the following:
Introduce Specialized Talent: ContiOcean intends to bring in high technology talent to Qatar and foster collaboration between its technology development center in Europe, the Wavelength Technology Center, and its potential R&D center at QSTP.
Promote Advanced Marine Technologies: The company seeks to identify local market opportunities to propel the incorporation of green marine technologies in Qatar.
Local and Regional Impact: Through its R&D center at QSTP, ContiOcean is keen to develop tailored solutions for not just the local market but also markets across the MENA region.
