Tashan Technology, a world-renowned developer of artificial intelligence (AI) tactile sensing chips and application solutions, has signed a letter of intent (LOI) to establish its research and development (R&D) center at Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP).
Tactile sensing technology entails the mapping and measuring of contact between two objects. It focuses on replicating the capabilities of human skin and allowing for artificial touch sensing in products and devices. This technology is increasingly used in automotive, robotics, healthcare applications, in addition to several consumer products.
Established in 2017, Tashan Technology is committed to the industrialization of intelligent touch technology that can detect three-dimensional space. It is the developer of the world’s first dedicated AI tactile chip that has completed the design phase and is now ready for manufacturing. Tashan also holds supplier qualifications with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) like Mercedes-Benz and BMW, in addition to achieving mass production in multiple projects with BYD.
Tashan has entered cooperation agreements with leading enterprises in the robotics industry including Xiaomi, Instar, and Chinese Academy of Sciences, focusing on the R&D and mass production of fingertip tactile sensors and electronic skin for humanoid robots.
The LOI was signed by Yang Ma, CEO and co-founder of Tashan with the ambition of bringing Tashan’s world-leading expertise in the field of AI tactile sensing to Qatar, and leveraging QSTP’s ecosystem to explore local and regional market opportunities.
On the occasion, Dr Jack Lau, QSTP President commented: “We are delighted at the prospect of partnering with Tashan Technology, a revolutionary leader with inimitable tactile sensor development and electronic engineering expertise. We believe that Tashan’s potential operations within QSTP will greatly support the national vision for digitalization as well as the country’s growing focus on AI-integration as part of its sustainable development.”
As part of the LOI, Tashan has expressed interest in:
Fostering Local Talent: Tashan intends to build a high-end talent pool in the area of tactile sensing applications and solutions.
Explore Tech Advancement Opportunities: Through its R&D center in Qatar, Tashan envisions to utilize opportunities to address local and regional market needs and applications for tactile sensing technology.
Forge Local Partnerships: Tashan is keen to foster local connections and collaborate with stakeholders to tackle existing challenges in the market.
