Dr. Hamad Al-Ibrahim

Executive Vice President of Research and Development

Dr. Al-Ibrahim joined Qatar Foundation in 2012 and served as Director of Planning and Strategic Initiatives at Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D), Dr. Al-Ibrahim has contributed significantly to developing the 5-year business plan of QF R&D and its research entities.

Before joining QF in 2012, Dr. Al-Ibrahim had worked on designing the Qatar National Research Strategy as part of the RAND Think-tank team, where he led the Health component discussion of the strategy. While at RAND Qatar Policy Institute, he gained international experience in developing public policies working as a Research Project Manager and an Associate Analyst. Dr. Al-Ibrahim also worked with the Supreme Council for Health to develop a clinical services framework for clinical service planning. He also worked on two projects for the Qatar National Food Security Program to develop the budget for its master plan and to support human resources planning through the engagement of key stakeholders.

Dr. Al-Ibrahim serves as a Board member of ESCWA Technology Centre Board of Governance and as a National Coordinator of the MENA Innovation Dashboard.

Dr. Al-Ibrahim has a medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Executive M.B.A. from HEC Paris and currently he is pursuing his Ph.D. in Public Policy at King's College.

Dr. Hassan Al-Derham

President of Qatar University

Qatar University’s 6th President Dr Hassan Rashid Al-Derham is recognized for playing a major role in advancing research activity at both university and national levels.

Dr Al-Derham assumed the position on 15 June 2015. He was previously Vice-President for Research from 2007 during which he guided QU to its current position as leader of research excellence in the GCC region, which was enhanced by its continuous success in winning the largest percentage of grants in the National Priorities Research Program (NPRP) and Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP) under the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF).

He also served in several earlier roles at QU including Associate VP for Research and Head of Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering.

He holds a PhD and Post-Graduate Diploma in Construction Project Management from University of South Wales, UK which followed obtaining a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech, USA. His undergraduate is in Architectural Engineering from North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University, USA.

During his term as VP for Research, Dr Al-Derham successfully developed and implemented the organization’s research policies, procedures, and priorities as well as an ambitious research road map fielding strategic national priorities.

Additionally, under his leadership, several research centers were initiated including the Gas Processing Center, Qatar Road Safety Studies Center, Qatar Mobility Innovations Center, KINDI Lab for Computing Research, Laboratory Animal Research Center, and the Biomedical Research Center. He also led the inauguration of the organization’s multi-million-dollar Research Complex.

Dr Al-Derham’s research interests include construction productivity, project optimization, legal contracts and procurement. In 2009, along with his research team, he won Best Paper of the Year in ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management. He is also a member of several professional international societies and organizations.

Abdulaziz Bin Nasser Al-Khalifa

CEO of Qatar Development Bank

Mr. Abdulaziz Bin Nasser Al-Khalifa was appointed as CEO in September 2013 in Qatar Development Bank and brings extensive experience in the SME and the private sector and field of entrepreneurship. Al Khalifa previously held the position of Executive Director, Strategy & Business Development at Qatar Development Bank He played the lead role in the launching of several cornerstone initiatives, such as the Al Dhameen Partial Guarantee Program, the Tasdeer Qatar Export Development Agency and the Housing Loan Program for Qatari citizens. Al Khalifa is Chairman of the Bedaya Center for entrepreneurship and chairman of Qatar Business Incubator. During his chairmanship, the Bedaya Center has provided support and access to knowledge to over 5,000 entrepreneurs. In addition to his public positions, Abdulaziz is a respected member of the Qatari business community and is Chairman of the Qatar German Medical Devices Company, the largest manufacturer of medical devices in the region. During his time with the firm he has be responsible for a significant increase in profitability. Mr. Al-Khalifa holds an MBA from Qatar University, a bachelor degree in Engineering from California State University and has received several specialized certificates from Harvard and Insead Universities.

Dr. Nasser S. Al-Mohannadi

Research and Technology Center Manager at Qatar Petroleum

Dr. Nasser AL-Mohannadi is the Research and Technology Center Manager at Qatar Petroleum with responsibilities to plan and execute R&D needs for existing and new business, and lead and support initiatives toward development and retention of new knowledge that will deepen and broaden the technical capabilities of Qatar Petroleum. He holds a Ph.D (Petroleum Engineering) from Colorado School of Mines. Prior to joining Qatar Petroleum, Dr. Nasser worked in several business entities including Qatar University, Qatar Shell, Qatar Occidental, Schlumberger and American Independent Oil & Gas Company. His experience spans over 16 years in the areas of Petroleum Engineering, O&G Operations, Research & Technology and as a lecturer. He also plays an active role in Qatar's Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) where he served as board member also was leading the young professionals section ``

Pekka Soini

Mr Pekka Soini is Director General, CEO of Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency Innovation. Prior to his current position at Tekes, Pekka headed Corporate Development Office (CDO) at Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and was Country Director for Finland and a member of the Executive Management Team. Prior to his position as Head of Corporate Development he headed NSN Strategy and Business Development.

Prior the merger, in Nokia Networks, he was the Head for Strategy & Technology unit. Pekka joined Nokia in 1987 and held several global business management position within Nokia Networks, such as the Head of Radio Networks Business Unit, and prior to that the Head of Broadband Wireless business alongside System & Business Development activities. Pekka has been stationed five years in the US where he was VP of M&S of Nokia Telecommunications, and two years in Paris, France where he was heading the Nokia Telecommunications team in the European Cellular Consortium Program. Mr Pekka Soini also was member of the Board of the Federation of Finnish Technology Industries during the years 2010 – 2012. Mr Soini is a member in several governmental and business councils and boards including the Research and Innovation Council of Finland chaired by the Prime Minister and a board member of the Technology Academy Finland.Pekka Soini was born in Finland in 1960.
