Project Description

Thales has been present in the State of Qatar for almost 40 years, and in QSTP since 2012. Along with embracing the Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV2030), Thales is a global technology leader shaping the world of tomorrow today.

The group provides solutions, services, and products to customers in the aeronautics, space, transport, digital identity and security, and defense markets. Thales today employs over 200 people in Qatar. Over the last few years, the Group has extended its footprint in various other areas, including security for critical infrastructures, rail, air transportation, and cybersecurity.

Thales jointly announced with Qatar Airways the opening of a tech research, development and training center at QSTP in 2012. Its laboratory currently houses state-of-theart in-flight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC) equipment that supports software and application prototyping, content integration, system level testing and training.

Thales’ presence in QSTP is mainly to support Qatar Airways for ÍFEC activities. Thales’ QSTP setup is unique within its global IFEC network and dedicated only for Qatar Airways. Over the years, Thales continuously improved the technology of the systems provided to Qatar Airways on many different aircraft fleets.

Its support includes:

  • Thales currently provides 24/7 technical support to 112 Qatar Airways aircraft from Hamad International Airport.

  • Thales IFEC will equip 146 aircraft by 2022.

  • As part of the support, Thales installed IFEC Simulators in QSTP for Airbus A320, Airbus A350, Airbus A380, and Boeing B787.
  • Since its inauguration, 42,000 movies, 78,000 TV programs, 130,000 albums, and 150 new types of software have been loaded through Thales QSTP simulators. New applications, passengers features and new passenger interface verifications are also done through Thales QSTP labs.
  • In terms of knowledge transfer, in collaboration with Qatar University, Thales QSTP developed trainees for cyber security.
  • Thales also trained over 800 Qatar Airways Aircraft Engineers working on different IFEC systems.
