Dr Maher Hakim

Executive Director

Dr Hakim is a sought-out expert and educator in technology innovation and entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship financing, venture capital, and M&A in the tech industry. He is currently the Executive Director of Qatar Science and Technology Park. Dr Hakim is an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at Carnegie Mellon University Qatar and has served as the head of CMUQ-AlFaisal Innovation Entrepreneurship Center. He is currently on the Council of the European Innovation Academy - a nonprofit educational institution recognized globally for excellence in tech entrepreneurship education. Dr Hakim has about 20 years of experience as a high-tech entrepreneur and a corporate executive in the information technology industry. Between 1994 and 2012, Dr Hakim lived in the Silicon Valley, founded five technology startup companies, and served in various management and leadership roles at large software companies such as Infor and Autodesk. He was involved in many M&A tech transactions on both sides and participated in taking one company public on the Nasdaq stock market. In addition to teaching, Dr Hakim is a board member, advisor and a mentor to several tech startup companies and is an active angel investor, and he frequently writes blog posts on innovation and entrepreneurship. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer-Aided Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University (1993) M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1990), and a BS in Civil Engineering from Damascus University (1987). Khaled Al Remithi

Marketing, Communication & Outreach Director

Khaled Al-Remithi is responsible for developing and implementing QF R&D’s communication strategy and activities, targeted at internal and external stakeholders, the local, regional, and global research community, and the wider public.

With a BA in Business and Marketing from the School of Business at California State University, Al-Remithi’s successful and diverse portfolio in the field of communications has seen him lead the PR and Marketing teams of some of Qatar’s largest companies. His accomplishments include organizing the 31st International Association of Science Park and Areas of Innovation World Conference (IASP 2014 Doha) as Director of Communications at Qatar Science & Technology Park, which hosted the global event.

Previously, as Head of Public Relations at Ooredoo (formerly Qtel), he was instrumental in raising the public and commercial profile of the company’s brand, and increasing stakeholder engagement. He has also worked as a Senior Gas Marketing Officer at Qatar Petroleum.

Hayfa Ahmed

Director, Innovation

Hayfa is the Innovation Director at Qatar Science & Technology Park. She is in charge of the support programs for tech entrepreneurship in connection with the regional and global tech innovation ecosystem. Hayfa has gained extensive experience in management, ICT, and tech-based entrepreneurship while working at QSTP, Qatar Petroleum and Qatar University. She is a board member at Qatar Mobility Innovation Center (QMIC), an innovation center focused on smart mobility systems and she is also a business writer and blogger.

Hayfa earned a Bachelor of Computer Sciences and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Qatar University. She is a certified Project Management Professional, Business Analyst, and Incubation Manager.

Ahmed Al Said

Park & Free Zone Management Director

Al-Said is responsible for providing strategic guidance and professional management in relation to all aspects of the capital development, infrastructure and operations of QSTP. He is leading the development and implementation of strategic projects such as the QSTP master plan and phase two expansion.

Al-Said holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering from Loyola Marymount University in California, USA. He also holds a Master in Business Administration (MBA) degree from Qatar University and a Master of Science degree in Facilities Management from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, UK. Prior to joining QSTP, he worked at RasGas’ Engineering department where he was responsible for the development of the Distributed Control System (DCS). He has also worked at Qatar Foundation Information Technology where he played a key role in the IT infrastructure development.

Dr Danny Ramadan

Investment Director

Dr Danny Ramadan’s role as Investment Director at Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) allows him to source, structure, and close investment opportunities, which further the mission of Qatar Foundation. His considerable experience in the Gulf has afforded him the opportunity to connect and network with regional and global venture capital partners. Danny continually works to establish new partnerships in support of making Qatar a recognized center for technology entrepreneurship.

Previously, Dr Ramadan was responsible for managing the portfolio of applied technology development programs funded by QSTP, and additionally he managed the operation of the QSTP Incubator. In his role as Technology Investment Advisor, he oversaw the equity portfolio of the Park and advised the Managing Director on future transactions.

Dr Ramadan has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Delaware and a BA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Franklin & Marshall College.

Haya Al Ghanim

Investment Director

Haya Al Ghanim is the Investment Director at Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP); in this role she reviews applications for the QSTP Tech Venture Fund, a seed stage capital funding program for tech-based businesses.

Al Ghanim’s career focus has been to enable entrepreneurs achieve their potential. She is a 2014 MIT Sloan MBA graduate with a B.A. in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado - Boulder.

Additionally, Al Ghanim is an amateur athlete, angel investor and former Co-Managing Director of the MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition. She is also a co- founder and CEO of Oola, a new revolutionary brand providing modest
sportswear for women.

Dr. Salvino Salvaggio

Industry Analysis & Grants Management Director

Dr. Salvino Salvaggio is the Industry Analysis & Grants Management Director of Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP). He manages and reviews applications for the QSTP Product Development Fund, a funding vehicle for SMEs and startups that develop products and services relevant to the local market needs.

Dr. Salvaggio played a key role in the establishment of QSTP in 2005. Over the years, he has taken on many roles advising QSTP on funding vehicles and assisting with the launch of large projects, such as the Robotic Surgery Center, Qatar Mobility Innovation Center, Williams F1, and GE.

In 2007, he was awarded one of the highest Italian civil titles when he was named “Commander of the Republic” by the then incumbent Italian president.

Dr. Salvaggio has worked for McKinsey & Company, Accenture and a number of universities and research centers around the globe while also overseeing his startups. He teaches Digital Humanities at Hamad Bin Khalifa University and has published several gastronomy essays, food restaurant reviews, academic journal articles, and a novel – which won two first European literary awards.
