Qatar’s primary incubator for technological advancement, Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), part of Qatar Foundation Research and Development (QF R&D), is supporting the third edition of the two-day Entrepreneurship in Economic Development Forum. The event, held under the Patronage of HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the State of Qatar, will take place on March 7, 2016 at the Sheraton Doha Resort and Convention Hotel in Qatar.

Organized by Qatar University, in collaboration with the Interactive Business Network (IBN), the forum aims to foster a generation of young entrepreneurs who have the knowledge and business skills to take advantage of opportunities in the future. QSTP’s participation in the event is aligned with Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development’s (QF) dedication to unlocking human potential in order to create a stimulating national economy that draws on its most valuable national resource; its people.

“As Qatar’s primary incubator for technology development, our support for the 3rd Entrepreneurship in Economic Development Forum reflects our commitment to promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in-line with the Qatar National Research Strategy,” revealed QSTP Managing Director, Hamad Al Kuwari.

“Entrepreneurship plays a major role in shaping and developing a knowledge-based economy, which aligns with our priorities at QSTP to transform Qatar into a regional hub for technology innovation by constantly growing and strengthening our support for talented entrepreneurs,” Al Kuwari added.

The forum is expected to attract wide interest and participation from officials and policy makers as well as major public and private institutions involved in education and youth development, in addition to business leaders, banks and specialized financial institutions.

Participants will discuss the prevailing entrepreneurial culture in Qatar and the wider Gulf region, proposing a specific plan of action to instil a culture of entrepreneurship in the various institutions participating in the forum. A further endeavor is to promote  mainstream entrepreneurship in the education system in order to build and support potential young entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurship is generally recognized as a vital element in economic development, acting as an engine for private sector growth and diversity. It is also a strategic prerequisite in facilitating Qatar’s paradigm shift towards developing a knowledge-based economy, as per the Qatar National Vision 2030.
